UK Dairy Day is strengthening its Cattle Show yet again by officially welcoming the National Brown Swiss Show, which, for the first time, will host its national show at the UK’s leading dairy trade event at the International Centre in Telford on Wednesday 12^th September.

The National Brown Swiss Show joins The Holstein Show and The Ayrshire Show, both of which host their celebrated national events at UK Dairy Day. This coordination of national shows is exciting news for the organisers of UK Dairy Day since its visitors will be a part of an even more varied and elaborated showing cattle event. All three national shows form part of UK Dairy Day’s Cattle Show which takes centre stage in the Main Ring throughout the day.

Brown Swiss Judge Announced

Completing the Brown Swiss line up is this year’s breed judge, Dr Angelo Pozzatti from Italy. Dr Angelo Pozzatti is a veterinarian who has specialised in bull selection. Between 2004 and 2008, Angelo worked in Switzerland for the AI stud Swissgenetics, responsible for the Brown Swiss program and as area sales manager for many countries. He then went on to work as technical and commercial director of the AI Stud, Zorlesco in Italy before settling into this current position as the new Europe sire analyst for Semex Alliance. Here he is responsible for the Italian market for Swissgenetics.

Dr Angelo Pozzatti has officiated more than 280 shows in more than 11 countries, placing Brown Swiss cattle at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in 2005, at the International Dairy Week in Australia in 2008, at the World Dairy Expo in 2009 and at the most important European shows (Verona, Cremona, Zug, Paris, Buchloe, Imst, Clermond Ferrand, Epinal and Lausanne).

Our membership is currently up to around 150 members across the UK and Ireland and as a society, we’re gaining growth and representation and can’t wait to formally be a part of UK Dairy Day.”

Originating from the Alpine regions of Europe, the Brown Swiss breed has successfully travelled to all corners of the world and adapted as one of the leading breeds of milking cow, particularly where the primary market for milk is the manufacture of cheese. Brown Swiss adapt to any climate or environment conditions, being noted for their resistance to extremes in temperatures. They are renowned for their natural grazing instinct and efficient conversion of forage.
