This year’s UK Dairy Day will showcase the very best breeding cattle and breeders; featuring classes for Ayrshire, Brown Swiss, Dairy Shorthorn, Jersey and the National Holstein Show.

The show ring will be a key feature at the dedicated dairy industry event that attracted over 7,000 visitors last year. This year’s event at the International Centre Telford in Shropshire will be open from 8am to 5pm on Wednesday 14^th September.

To complement the high standard of cattle, this year’s esteemed panel of highly respected judges casting their professional eye over the breeds will be Giuseppe Quaini, Robert Hunter and Michael Broadley.

Italian Giuseppe Quaini will judge the Holstein breed featuring eight classes, four championship classes and the Holstein group of four. Guiseppe has spent most of his life within the dairy breeding industry and currently milks 400 cows across 200 hectares in Castelverde near Cremona, Italy. His judging life started in 1979 - he has since judged almost everywhere in the world: 5 times at the Italian National Show, 4 times in the UK including The National Holstein Show, 7 times in Holland, 6 times in Canada, 2 times in the USA (associate judge at the 2003 WDE Madison), also Argentina, Mexico, Brazil, Azzorre Islands, 6 times in Spain, 2 times in Ireland, Germany, Swiss Expo and Bulle in Switzlerland, Portugal, Croatia, and many others! 

The coloured classes will be judged by Robert Hunter and Michael Broadley, covering twelve classes and four championship classes. Robert Hunter from Lanarkshire has judged numerous herd competitions and many of the major shows including, Yorkshire, Balmoral, Royal Welsh and the Autumn Show on the island of Jersey. His family have had many successes in the show ring predominately at the Royal Highland Show and AgriScot where they have been fortunate to have been champions several times. They have had many awards for production and inspection at national level with their pedigree herds of Letterkenny Holsteins and Clydevalley Jerseys.

Michael Broadley works in partnership with his parents and brother in Derbyshire. The 245 acre farm, in the heart of the Peak District National Park, milks 160 Ayrshires under the Whitecroft prefix alongside 60 Holstein Friesians under the Brundcliffe prefix. The herds run together but are milk recorded separately, and their claim to fame is having the highest registering Ayrshire herd at 1100 ft above sea level. Michael has judged across the country including the National Calf Show, the Northern Ireland Calf Show, Balmoral Show, the Royal Norfolk Show, the Royal Welsh, Cheshire, and South West Dairy Show - plus numerous other local shows. A member of the Ayrshire Breed Heritage committee, Michael with his family show Ayrshires and actively encourage young members into showing as they believe this is a win win situation that gets the breed in the public eye.
